MTN DEW launched their new DEW Time Off (D.T.O.) campaign, which gets people to do more of what they love. The concept of the campaign made me think of the ways I was giving myself the space to do things that I love. With the obligations we have to our families and our work, it’s easy to neglect our enjoyment.
One of the reasons I started BrittneyOliver.com and then the #L2LMixer is because I did not enjoy my full-time job. I worked at an event production company and never got to produce a thing. Therefore, I created an opportunity for myself to do something I love.
But doing something you love doesn’t always look like a job. I enjoy baking, and I try to make it a priority each month. Think about the last time you took a trip. How about the last time you spent time with your parents, bought yourself a cute outfit or spent time working on your hobby? It’s the little things that bring us joy that we should spend a bit more time doing. Those moments of joy help recenter us to be the best versions of our selves to the people and places that need us to be.
So MTN DEW sent over a limited-edition backpack created by award-winning Japanese artist Ushio Shinohara, among other resources to invest towards passions. Their kit inspired me to share some tips on how we can all take some much needed DEW Time:
Prioritize
The first step is to make DEW Time a priority. For a week, write down your daily task and what you did each hour of the day. After the week is over, review your list and see if you did anything enjoyable that week. If so, figure out how to incorporate it every week into your schedule. If not, see how you can maximize your daily routines to add a little DEW Time to the mix.
Invest
Start saving a little from your paycheck each month to put towards your hobbies and doing things you enjoy. Invest in yourself so that DEW Time can be a regular thing.
Include Others
You don’t have to spend time doing what you love by yourself. Involve your friends and family to give them a glimpse of what you enjoy doing the most.
